California AB 2975 Compliance
for Hospital Screening Teams

California AB 2975 requires automated weapons detection at specified hospital entrances. Cal/OSHA's Standards Board must finalize the implementing standards by March 1, 2027, and hospitals then comply on a date set within 90 days of finalization. The hardware is only half of it: the law also requires a minimum of eight hours of training for the non-clinical staff operating those checkpoints. Security Screening IQ™ by CSSM-USA is the human layer — certifying screening personnel, tracking training readiness, and producing the documentation Cal/OSHA will ask for.

The California Compliance Hub

Everything California healthcare compliance — in one place.

California hospitals now face two related but distinct obligations: AB 2975 governs weapons detection screening at entrances, and Cal/OSHA Title 8 §3342 governs workplace violence prevention for all staff. Security Screening IQ™ is the only platform built to manage both mandates under a single audit-ready dashboard.

The Compliance Timeline

2027 is closer than it looks.

2024

Mandate Enacted

California AB 2975 was signed in September 2024, amending Labor Code §6401.9 to require weapons detection screening and trained screening personnel at specified hospital entrances.

2026

Preparation Window

No screening obligation is in force yet. Hospitals that assess entrances, scope staffing, and stand up training now avoid compressing procurement and training into the 90-day compliance window.

2027

Rules Final, Then Compliance

The Cal/OSHA Standards Board must finalize the amended standard by March 1, 2027. Hospitals then comply on a date set within 90 days of finalization — not on March 1 itself.

Are you audit-ready?

Every officer accounted for.
Every certification documented.

When Cal/OSHA asks what training the officer at that checkpoint had, the answer should take seconds to produce, not weeks. Security Screening IQ™ keeps every certification date, assessment score, and recertification deadline in one place.
